Auditions

All musicians will be asked to prepare 1 octave (minimum) major scales in the following keys for their instrument: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A, E.  Additionally, applicants for Philharmonic and Camerata are required to prepare the above major scales in a minimum of 2 octaves.  Applicants for Vivace will be asked to sight clap rhythms and may be asked to perform G and A major scales in 2 octaves.   
Winds will be asked to sight read and to prepare a 2 octave (minimum) chromatic scale.
All musicians will be asked to prepare excerpts from 2 works of contrasting styles (solos or etudes) of their own choosing. Each excerpt is not to exceed 2 minutes in length.
Percussionists should prepare etudes on as many of the following instruments: timpani, xylophone or marimba, and snare drum.
Harp and Piano will be asked to prepare a solo piece only.


Additional Requirements:
String musicians are to prepare the required excerpt that corresponds to the ensemble in which they wish to participate.
Wind musicians are to prepare the required excerpt that corresponds to their instrument.

Any student wishing to be considered for the piccolo position should prepare a single excerpt of the musician’s choosing, in addition to the two chosen flute excerpts. No additional piccolo excerpt is required.

Applicants requesting consideration for the Philharmonic
must prepare both the Bach and Mahler excerpts.  
Camerata applicants may prepare only the Bach.
