Orange County Junior Orchestra becomes Southern California Youth Philharmonic
As President of the Board of Directors, I am enormously proud to be a part of this tremendous organization which continues to motivate and enhance musical talent at an especially high level. I thank you for your commitment in order to make this possible.
I am pleased to inform you of the Board of Directors’ recent decision to change the formal name of our organization to the Southern California Youth Philharmonic. We strongly feel that the new name better reflects the SCYP’s continued growth in both geographical scope and age range. The name more accurately represents the identity of the orchestra members while each performing ensemble has been restructured to raise the level of educational and artistic excellence. The SCYP has, without a doubt, evolved beyond the community based orchestra that it was when founded in 1982, and has become one of Southern California’s leading youth orchestras.
This exciting change occurs at an extremely significant point in the organization’s life. As you may already know, the SCYP will celebrate its 25th Anniversary season in 2007-2008, offering young musicians throughout Southern California the opportunity to pursue excellence in classical music. While the name has been changed, the artistic vision and mission of the SCYP will remain unchanged.
We are confident that you will agree that the new name better represents the structure of our organization and its many elements.
Sincerely,
Grace Yang
President
Southern California Youth Philharmonic Board of Directors
